Winnipeg Public Forum, May 1, 2005

On May 1, 2005 there will be a Public Forum from 7-9 PM at the West End
Cultural Centre, 586 Ellice Avenue (at Sherbrook) in Winnipeg, to explore
the theme, “CITIZEN ACTION - CHALLENGING THE LIMITS: Towards a New
Internationalism”.

This event is presented by Inter Pares - an international social justice
organization based in Ottawa; it is co-hosted by the Canadian Women’s
Health Network, based in Winnipeg, which is devoted to building and
strengthening the women's health movement in Canada and throughout the world.

The Public Forum will feature presentations and discussion with Inter Pares
staff and three international activists engaged in research, education,
policy advocacy, organizing and networking on important social,
environmental, and economic justice issues:

Asha El-Karib is a strong advocate for women’s health, equality, and civil
rights, with the Gender Centre for Research and Training, and the Agency
for Cooperation and Research in Development (ACORD), Sudan.
Khushi Kabir is a prominent feminist and human rights defender, and
Director of Nijera Kori, an organization supporting landless women and men
in Bangladesh to gain access to land and livelihood resources, and in
addressing social and environmental impacts of commercial shrimp
aquaculture internationally.
Yao Graham is a journalist, lawyer, and Coordinator of Third World
Network-Africa (TWN-A) based in Ghana, working with local organizations,
trade unions, academics and policy-makers throughout the continent, and a
leading voice on economic development, trade and investment, environment,
and gender equality.

The forum is free of charge. Refreshments will be available. For more
information or for speakers’ biographies, please visit http://
