I am the project coordinator for the Women's Health Matters Resource
Database. I'd like to give other members of this listserv a little
background about this usability study.

I'm sure most of you know that womenshealthmatters.ca is an initiative of
Sunnybrook and Women's College Health Sciences Centre and is a legitimate
website. Our usability study is part of a three-part evaluation our
evaluation consultants are conducting for our funders. The usability study
is a technical study measuring how the database navigation and search
functions work, but not the content. The study will use software that
measures and analyzes physical actions (such as mouse and keyboard strokes)
and any comments the participants make. Since the sample is fairly small, it
is a bit of a gamble but one which will provide us with important feedback.
We will get feedback on the database content from a wider selection of
website visitors in our third annual online survey early in 2006.

As for the rationale for paying the participants, this has been ably
explained by another member of the listserv. We do think people should be
fairly compensated for their time.

Alertbox, an e-newsletter on usability. See his website at
