The following is a public service announcement which may be of interest to
individuals with an interest in learning more about breast cancer.
Held annually during Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Awareness Day is
designed to promote awareness about breast cancer, and raise funds in
support of breast cancer research, education, diagnosis and treatment. In
1996, over $150,000 was raised with 1,200 supporters in attendance. This
year, the event will take place on Thursday, October 30th at the Sheraton
Centre Hotel, 123 Queen Street. This year, we expect to have 1,500
participants throughout the day.
Awareness Day is comprised of a breakfast program, morning seminars, a
lunch program and a resource centre. All programs are open to the public
and tickets may be purchased for the full day or separately for breakfast,
lunch or the seminars. At the seminars, participants will be given an
opportunity to ask questions of a diverse group of breast cancer experts.
The resource centre will house a comprehensive array of materials with a
focus on primary prevention, early detection, treatment, diagnosis and
support. The is no charge to enter resource centre which is open throughout
the day.
The Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation (CBCF) is a non-profit organization
whose mission is to support the advancement of breast cancer research,
education, diagnosis and treatment. Since its inception in 1986, the
Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation has awarded over $2 million towards
research and education both locally and nationally.
