HEALTH PROMOTION: ENVIRONMENT/ POLICY
 Tenure Stream Position

Department of Public Health Sciences, Faculty of Medicine, University of
Toronto

THE POSITION

We are seeking a Health Promotion Specialist with an emphasis on Environment
and/or Policy for a fulltime tenure stream faculty position. The Department’s
educational responsibilities include: 1)  MSc/PhD programs in social sciences
and health, epidemiology, biostatistics, occupational and environmental health;
2) professional  MHSc programs in health promotion, community health and
epidemiology, occupational and environmental health; 3) residency programs in
community medicine and occupational medicine; 4) undergraduate medical teaching
and 5) continuing education. The Department of Public Health Sciences
encompasses  the Centre for Health Promotion and maintains active liaison with
various research institutes and centers, community health agencies and groups,
public health, professional health associations, teaching hospitals and
government ministries.

QUALIFICATIONS AND DUTIES

Applications must have a PhD or equivalent  in a relevant area such as social
or behavioural science, education, health administration, medicine or law, with
expertise in environmental and/or policy research, analysis, development and
implementation. The initial appointment may be at the rank of Assistant or
Associate Professor.  We are interested in individuals with broad
socioenvironmental perspective on health promotion, as articulated in
international documents such as the Ottawa Charter for Health Promotion.
Preference will be given to individuals who also have expertise in one or more
of the following areas: (a) the development and application of social theory;
(b) communitybased research; (c) research methodologies; (d) inequities in
health; (e) advocacy and social change; (f) the application of new information
technologies in health promotion; and (g) evaluation. Priority will be given to
an individual with a promising publication record in refereed journals, the
ability to develop productive research programs supported by external funding,
and demonstrated effectiveness and commitment to teaching. The successful
candidate is expected to make a particular contribution to advancing the work
of the Centre for Health Promotion.
