This illustrates the advanced state of "Canadian Institute of Health
Research"
-- and the role of corporate sponsors and marketing -- into improving
the health of Canadians. dr
----------------------------------------
Dear Colleague:

The Canadian Institutes of Health Research, Institute of Nutrition,
Metabolism and Diabetes is pleased to provide this invitation to
participate in Canada on the Move: Step One (CMSO).

CMSO is a unique initiative involving the creation of a web-based
research platform, initially to capture data from an upcoming "natural
experiment". This natural experiment is the result of the decision by an
initial industry partner to distribute more than 800,000 pedometers to
Canadians through a product marketing campaign beginning December 2003.

Attached are the documents detailing information for researchers and
other experts (CMSO RFP) and to potential partner organizations (CMSO
Invite to Organizations and Invitation Form).

We need your help with very rapid and widespread dissemination of these
invitations because the deadline for researchers to apply is September
16, 2003, less than 2 weeks away.

The competition for researchers/experts is open to an international
audience and they do not have to reside in an academic institution. We
want the best brains in areas like monitoring physical activity,
web-based data collection and intervention, program evaluation,
community-based intervention, research platforms, epidemiology, national
registries, e.g. maintenance of long-term weight loss, current pedometer
interventions in Canada, ethics, website creation, communications,
knowledge translation......etc, to help us with this project.

Any help your institute/unit can provide in the distribution of these
documents through appropriate email lists would be most welcome. My
apologies for duplicate postings.

Cheers,

Diane
