TWO-MINUTE ACTION ALERT
Tell CBC's "The Current" that you support a national child care system with public money going for children, not profits

This morning (Feb 10), "The Current" featured a discussion between Kerry McCuaig and a rep from the Frasier Inst in anticipation of tomorrow's federal/provincial meeting to negotiate a new child care agreement. The show also included a one-on-one interview with Eddie Groves, millionaire owner of the biggest for-profit child care chain Australia, who dismissed fears that putting public dollars into big box child care compromises quality, accountability, working conditions, and local control of services.

Kerry McCuaig did a fantastic job of exposing the perils of the Australian model and warning that Canada's new child care deal must focus on non-profit delivery to ensure that big-box corporations cannot move into Canada and gobble up public dollars under the protections of NAFTA.

WE NEED YOU YOUR HELP to make sure that "The Current" gets the message that Canadians support a new national child care program where public dollars go to non-profit services NOT big-box child care corporations.

TAKE TWO MINUTES TO CALL 416-205-7878 and leave a message for "The Current" telling them, in your own words, that:

- The business of child care should be totally fixated on the well being of children - NOT on corporate profits.
- The Australian model is not the answer for Canada! Australia's child care sector is dominated by 3 major corporations that gobble up community-based providers, lobby hard to lower standards and working conditions, and use public dollars to make owners and shareholders rich. This in not what we want here.

- Canada's new system must put public money into expanding not-for-profit child care. This is the best guarantee of high standards and the sure way to keep big-box child care corporations out of business in Canada.
