DEPARTMENT/LOCATION:    Canadian Tobacco Control Research Initiative (CTCRI)

POSITION TITLE: Manager, research programs (contract)
REPORTS TO:  Director, CTCRI

PRIMARY DUTIES:
This position has the primary responsibility for management of all CTCRI's
research grants funding programs. Work is conducted under the direction of the
Director and as part of a staff team.

Responsibilities include:
-Coordination with research funding partners regarding all aspects of the
research grant programs, including funding commitments, engagement in the
grants process and evaluation;
-Management of the grants administrative process, including promotion of grant
opportunities, receipt and scientific review, communications with grantees
(e.g., notification of funding, receipt of financial and project reports) ;
-Monitor alignment of research programs and funding priorities with the CTCRI
research agenda and strategic initiatives;
-As opportunity arises, develop and implement new grant funding programs;
-Ensure the CTCRI's systems capture complex evaluation data and produce reports
as needed in regard to grants;
-Participation as a member of the CTCRI team on other projects as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
-Experience working with partnerships, collaborations and volunteers
-Familiarity with research funding, grant-writing and grant-making processes
-Understanding of health research methods
-Knowledge of the major communities related to health research in Canada
-Knowledge of tobacco control issues an asset
-Understanding of basic concepts of "knowledge transfer"
-Strong organizational and management skills
-Excellent interpersonal skills
-Excellent written and oral communication skills, with a high level of accuracy
-Resourcefulness and initiative; a problem-solver
-Completion of post-secondary school; graduate education OR experience in the
field a must
-Some fluency in French an advantage
-Proficiency with MS Windows programs, including word processing, spreadsheet
and database software programs (Word, Excel, Access) necessary
-Non-smoker
