[note the following funding announcement, in particular the funding priorities that recognize the importance of environmental, social and economic conditions of community life affecting health]

The Union of B.C. Municipalities has asked its members for Community Health Promotion proposals as it launches a second round of grants.
http://www.civicnet.bc.ca/siteengine/activepage.asp?NewsID=150

The UBCM's Community Health Promotion Fund (CHPF) was announced in April 2005. It was created through a $5 million grant from the provincial Ministry of Health to support health promotion programs and activities in communities focusing on healthy living and chronic disease prevention. The fund supports the provincial government's ActNowBC initiative to lead the way in North America in healthy living and physical fitness and the goal of building community capacity to create healthier, more sustainable and economically viable communities.

Up to $35,000 per project is available for projects that promote health on an individual and community basis and that ideally will involve the active participation of more than one local government department.
Preliminary proposals must be submitted to the UBCM office prior to 4:30 p.m. on September 18, 2006 in order to be considered for funding. Please click on the following links for further program and application details:

Funding Priorities
Since community health promotion is a very broad field, funding envelopes have been established to focus projects on key priorities. Note that integrated projects focusing on more than one of these areas are encouraged. Preliminary project proposals must indicate the area(s) of their project's focus, (and in the case of Priority A, the sub-area targeted).
A. Individual Health Promotion - planning and projects that focus on improving physical activity, healthy eating, smoking cessation, healthy pregnancies*.
B. Health and Environment - planning and projects that focus on improving environmental conditions that impact community and individual health.
C. Health and Social Factors - planning and projects that focus on improving social conditions that impact community and individual health.
D. Health and Economy - planning and projects that focus on improving economic conditions that impact community and individual health.
E. Health and Community Planning - planning and projects that focus on the connection between community planning/built environment and health outcomes (e.g. improving walkability, creating health impact assessment process for development).
