Research Coordinator, Cochrane Equity Field 

The University of Ottawa, Institute of Population Health (www.iph.uottawa.ca) is seeking a full-time Research Coordinator to manage all research projects and daily operations of the Cochrane Collaboration Health Equity Field. This position is full-time, and can start in April 2007.

The Cochrane Collaboration is an international network of individuals and organizations committed to preparing, maintaining and disseminating systematic reviews of health care interventions (www.cochrane.org <http://www.cochrane.org/> ).  The focus of the Cochrane Health Equity Field is to encourage authors of Cochrane Collaboration reviews to include explicit descriptions of the effect of the interventions not only on the whole population but to describe their effect upon the disadvantaged and/or their ability to reduce inequalities in health across socioeconomic factors and to promote the use of such reviews to inform policy and practice in the wider community


Principle Duties and Responsibilities

1.	Research: Coordinate and participate in research activities of the Cochrane equity field (eg literature reviews, analysis, schedules, deliverables, milestones, site coordination, budget reports).  This involves communicating with other Cochrane entities, researchers, the editors.
2.	Communication: arrange and orchestrate editorial meetings, correspond with international and local colleagues, newsletters, minutes of meetings, prepare presentations and workshops.  Answer queries from prospective members the public and other interested parties.
3.	Dissemination: assist with developing and implementing a research transfer strategy for equity reviews and methods, including development of manuscripts, presentations at local and international conferences.  
4.	Preparing grant applications, completing funding reports, progress reports and Cochrane collaboration monitoring reports.

 

Organizational Relationships

As coordinator of the Cochrane equity field, the incumbent will receive direction from the Cochrane Equity Field convenors and editorial team, (primarily Peter Tugwell) and the Cochrane Collaboration.  The position is based at the Institute of Population Health (IPH), University of Ottawa (www.iph.uottawa.ca <http://www.iph.uottawa.ca/> ).  Also based at the IPH is the Cochrane Musculoskeletal Review Group, the Cochrane Effective Practice and Organization of Care Group and the Canadian Cochrane Network and Centre.

 

Skills & Experience Required:

The incumbent must be a self-starter with demonstrated organizational skills, needed to complete a high volume of work within a short time frame.  Excellent English oral and written communication skills, including computer competency (word processing, presentations, spreadsheets, electronic mail) and an interest in working both independently and as a team member are essential.  You will have good quantitative and analytical skills and experience or knowledge of systematic review/ meta-analysis methodology.  Familiarity with the CIHR knowledge translation mandate is an asset.  Bilingualism is not required, but considered an asset.

 

Education:

Master's degree in epidemiology, health or social sciences is preferred.  Individuals with a Bachelor degree in a relevant discipline and significant critical appraisal or research experience will be considered. 

 

The position is grant funded and initially tenable for 12 months with likelihood of extension.
