Hello Heather,

I am involved in a campaign that is being developed in Eastern Ontario
through the Eastern Region Injury Network (ERIN) that will target
parents of children under 16 who own ATVs or have access to ATVs. This
group is made up a number of representatives from eastern health units
and hospitals, including Prince Edward Hastings Health Unit, KFL&A
Public Health, Leeds Lanark Grenville Health Unit, Eastern Ontario
Health Unit, Ottawa Public Health, CHEO, Renfrew Country and District
Health Unit, etc. We are in the development stages and are working on
the message and content for a poster. We have developed a few different
posters and plan to focus test them in the near future. Leeds, Lanark,
Grenville Health Unit is also conducting a survey at the upcoming
International Plowing Match in their area to find out some more
information on parental choices around allowing their child to ride an
ATV. So, we are planning to hopefully have something out in the
community for next spring.

I am not sure what suggestions I can offer, as I am sure you are aware
it takes some time to decide on the target group, and what message you
want to get out. We as a group have decided to keep our message fairly
simple with the knowledge that many parents may not take the information
seriously, but it is a starting point to hopefully at least make people
think twice before they allow their child to ride. But it would be
great to hear about what we are all trying to do. I would be interested
to hear how things are going with your project.

Please give me a call if you would like more information.
Tanya

Subject: [CLICK4HP] ATV safety for children and teens

I'm interested in finding out if any organization, such as a health
unit, has or is in the process of addressing ATV safety among children
and teens. We are in the planning stage and any information or
suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
