Research Project Coordinator: Health Systems and Policy Change

Location: Dalhousie University, Atlantic Health Promotion Research Centre (AHPRC), Halifax, Nova Scotia.
This position will be part of a new Knowledge Translation and Mobilization research team, based at the Atlantic Health Promotion Research Centre, Dalhousie University.
About AHPRC:
The mission of the AHPRC is to conduct and facilitate health promotion research that informs policy and practice and contributes to the health and well-being of Atlantic Canadians. Established in 1993, AHPRC conducts and facilitates health promotion research projects and related activities across the Atlantic region. Over the past 12 years the Centre has generated over $17 million in research funding. The Centre currently has 40 full and part time staff and ongoing research in the following areas: healthy communities, healthy aging, healthy eating, active living, knowledge translation, stroke, utilization of health services, and healthy public policy. Duties:
The research project coordinator will be responsible for managing an exciting new three year CIHR-funded research project on knowledge transfer and exchange as it relates to improving the transmission of research to health systems and policy-decision makers. The purpose of this research project is to create and pilot a protocol (this includes a tool and a process for using the tool) for enhancing the receptor capacity for new research evidence in health systems and policy settings.
The research project includes the following components:
ˇ synthesis of literature on knowledge utilization and resource theory (a theory based in psychology) ;
ˇ creation of a model for assessing how resources affect organizational uptake;
ˇ convening an international panel of experts and conducting focus groups with project teams;
ˇ analysis of focus group findings;
ˇ creation of a research tool and training module for research teams;
ˇ development of a dissemination plan which includes translation of research findings into relevant messages for decision-makers;
ˇ project management (financial management, supervision of student RA's, monitoring timelines, preparation of papers and presentations, organization of meetings and events, etc).
Qualifications:
Applicants should have a masters degree with strong research skills or have (or be in the process of completing) a doctoral degree in a health-related or social sciences discipline. Applicants must have demonstrated skills in qualitative analysis, excellent organizational abilities, strong project management skills, outstanding interpersonal skills; excellent written and oral abilities and computer skills. The ability to meet deadlines and to work independently is also important.
