Minimum salary
42,963.60 per year

Maximum salary

43,822.80 per year

Salary: $1,790.15 - $1,825.95 semi-monthly *Salary may be commensurate of education and/or experience

Job Location: This position is with Missouri Department of Natural Resources, Division of State Parks, and will be located at Mark Twain State Park & State Historic Site, 37352 Shrine Road, Florida, MO. Work shift will vary according to facility demands and will include working weekends and holidays. Typical work schedule is Monday through Friday, 7:30 am to 4:00 pm during the months of November through March with intermittent weekend shifts. During the months of April through October shift times will vary, typically working every other weekend. On-site housing is not available at this location.

What you’ll do:

Perform basic management duties relating to the overall operation and maintenance of a state park or historic site facility which includes visitor services, budgeting, procurement, preservation, research, interpretation, and other management tasks. Researches historical, cultural, and natural resource materials; prepares preliminary reports and interpretive materials; assists with the development of permanent and temporary exhibits; presents technical/interpretive information to the general public. Process all accounts payable for the assigned park/site(s) and maintain all fiscal records and track expense and equipment budgets. Assist with and monitors fee and revenue collections, supplies and service requisitions, retail sales operations, and the preparation of associated reports. Process and complete bank deposits in accordance with policy and procedure.
Maintain and assist with scheduling and billing for shelters, group camps, and special use areas
Assist with collecting and analyzing data relating to state park/historic site facility budget; provides recommendations relating to operational expenditures, visitor services, equipment/supply/service procurement, and facility expansion and repair.
Greets the public and discusses the facility’s resources, rules, and regulations relating to the park and site Provide leadership, supervision and coaching to various seasonal and volunteer staff Accessions, catalogs, and preserves facility collections following Missouri State Parks guidelines Assist with prescribed burns, wild fire suppression, herbicide application and other natural or cultural activities as directed.

All you need for success:

Minimum Qualifications
Ability to operate a vehicle and maintain a valid vehicle operator’s license.
Must be able to work rotating shifts that include weekends, evenings, holidays as needed to respond to incidents and to visitors’ needs at the park and the historic site.

Available to participate in meetings, workshops and seminars requiring overnight stays

Ability to walk long distances on uneven terrain in all kinds of weather and environmental conditions, ability to climb stairs and ladders, and have the ability to lift 50 pounds, with or without an accommodation.

Coursework and/or experience in the following fields: Park Management, Parks and Recreation, Biology, Natural Sciences, Interpretation, Preservation, History, Business or Public Administration.

This position will be required to complete Basic of Archives and Caring for Museum Collections training which is hosted online by the American Association for State and Local History (AASLH) within the first six months (or as they become available.)

Preferred Qualifications
Interest in history and cultural resources, especially the life and time period of Mark Twain.
Experience with the use of computers and various software applications including Microsoft Office.

Skill in providing information and guidance to park/historic site visitors and staff.

Ability to communicate clearly and professionally in person and with written correspondence.

Ability to provide leadership and supervision to staff.

Training, certification, and/or education in continuous process improvement programs such as Lean Six Sigma as well as completion of Missouri Way, Leadership Academy, and similar programs is preferred.

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in the following fields: park management, parks and recreation, biology, natural sciences, history, business or public administration.

Lack of post-secondary education will not be used as the sole basis denying consideration to any applicant.
