Microsoft has released a Security Advisory regarding a vulnerability in
the "Graphics Rendering Engine". This means that many graphic files
(pictures, charts within other applications or on their own, .jpg, .gif,
etc. files opened on computers using Windows could be a problem.

**Note that MacOS and Linux/UNIX computers are NOT affected.

At this time Microsoft has not released a Security Update to address
this problem but expects to have a release in the next week.

In order to protect your computer, the following is recommended:
1.  Keep your anti-virus definitions up-to-date on your home computer;
your local tech support will look after your office computer
2. Do not visit web sites that are unknown to you
3. E-mail attachments from unknown sources should never be opened
4. Do not download graphic material using peer-to-peer(P2P)
applications, for example Kaaza, Torrent etc.

Information Security continues to monitor the situation and will release
updates if more information becomes available.

Questions or concerns about this note, should be directed to
the CNS Helpdesk in the Computing Commons, William Small Centre,
(voice: 416-736-5800, email: [log in to unmask]).
