The problem is that Canadians do not understand that the term "welfare
state" refers to pensions, health and social services, education, job
security, care-for children and insurance among other things. The USA is
probably too far gone :-) but we neeed to re-orient citizens to what makes
the good life. That is why I use the term welfare state -- but the point is
well taken and should be considered.
