Hello,
My health unit is interested in developing an activity/initiative for
grade 5 students for National Drug Awareness Week (the activity could be
done during school-the classroom, or be a take home activity to be done
on their own time). The goal of the activity is to prevent or delay the
onset of substance use. Research indicates that at this age, children
are not using or contemplating substance use. The focus should be to
provide students with information about substance use and strategies for
developing skills, such as communication, decision-making, problem
solving, and conflict resolution.
Also, we are interested in developing an activity/initiative for grade 5
students to do with their parents at home, with the goal of reinforcing
the importance of communication between the parent and child, and the
importance of talking about substance use.
Has any one developed such an activity or aware of any? I would
appreciate any comments or suggestions. Thanks and take care, Heather
