The Centre for Applied Health Research at
         The University of Waterloo

announce a graduate course bridging cancer
control science and public health practice

       HSG 720A: Cancer Prevention and
                   Control

This is a unique graduate seminar course linking the
principles of cancer prevention and control science with
public health practice. Topics, emphasizing the important
components of this multifaceted discipline, include the
principles of cancer epidemiology, cancer biology for public
health, prevention and control of organ specific tumours,
health promotion and community interventions, clinical and
genetic screening for cancer, issues in treatment and
rehabilitation, and quality of life for cancer survivors. The
capstone for the course will be an interactive case study
designed to bridge the gap between research practice and
public health practice in cancer control science.

Nationally and provincially recognized public health and
clinical researchers whose work is at the interface of
research and practice will serve as faculty for this course.

The course will be held on Thursdays 1:30-4:30 beginning
January 15, 1998 at the University of Waterloo. Enrollment is
limited to 15.
