For those of you not familiar with the work of Health for Humanity, I
recommend looking over their website:

Health For Humanity is a health development organization with a unique
vision.
HH's unique vision has to do with systematically incorporating ethical
principles alongside proven scientific strategies to successfully address
health challenges at the local level. In its international projects, HH
promotes health development by partnering with local governmental and
non-governmental organizations. Health For Humanity works by helping the
helpers. HH assists local institutions and grassrooots organizations to
increase their capacity to meet the health needs of those they serve.
In its domestic projects, HH aims to promote community health
development through local initiatives within regional health care networks
that utilize HH's unique approach.
A fundamental belief of Health For Humanity is that people everywhere have
inherent nobility and the capacity to care for themselves. Education,
training, and ethical practices are all necessary to unleash this capacity.
Local support and leadership are pre-requisites in any successful
health development project. Human and financial resources exported from
abroad, no matter how impressive, will never permanently alter local
conditions that gave rise to the health challenges in the first place.
Neither will technical training, by itself, automatically translate into
transformation of health for the local population. Newly developed
technical expertise at the local level can only benefit a community if it
finds expression upon a foundation of ethical principles and practices.
Therefore, in addition to health-related technical training, HH also
provides non-sectarian, ethical leadership training that helps to
galvanize the community around shared values, promotes communication, and
paves the way for self-sufficiency. Thus, the general social health of
the community also improves, and lends its support to it's caregivers.
Health care professionals as well as individuals from a variety of
disciplines will find many avenues of service through HH for their talents
and skills. HH volunteers and partners work closely together, each
offering strengths and learning from the other. It is through this
dynamic collaboration and exchange that true progress occurs.
