I believe that the deadline has passed (JUNE 20th, 2006) for this responding to this request for participants in the content review committee and usability testing of the Best Practices Portal. The orientation sessions for the Content Review Committee members took place yesterday and today, and the participants will be working intensively on reviewing the content over the next 3 weeks. I know that there has been an enthusiastic response to this call for participants, and hopefully that interest will be followed up by the Public Health Agency of Canada and the Centre for Chronic Disease and Control.

I'd like to respond to an earlier question about the difference between this developing portal and the existing Canadian Health Network. As I understand it, the Best Practices Portal will be coordinating resources, models, theories and interventions content for policy, research and practice decision-makers in the fields of chronic disease prevention and health promotion. The Canadian Health Network <http://www.canadian-health-network.ca> provides high quality trustworthy online health information for the general public and health professionals on how to prevent disease and make healthy choices for themselves and their community. CHN does this through a unique collaboration of health information providers including the federal government, national and provincial non-profit organizations, universities, hospitals, libraries and community organizations. They have different audiences but common goals of sharing information and knowledge. I'm looking forward to more collaboration between such portals.

Please note for future reference that replying to such requests should be done directly to the original person who posted the message OR to the person who is referred to as the primary contact, not just replying to the who CLICK4HP list. In the case of this request, the contacts were either Nancy Dubois at [log in to unmask] or Nina Jetha at [log in to unmask] If you hit 'reply', the message address will be CLICK4HP's address. Remove that address and copy and paste in the direct contact's email address - or start a new message to that person and copy in the text of the original message that you want to discuss. It makes it much easier for the list subscribers to have messages that are relevant to the whole list, not only personal messages.

Cheers!

Alison

RE: Opportunity for further input to Best Practices Portal for Health Promotion and Chronic Disease Prevention

We are approaching the next milestone in the development of the Best Practices Portal for Health Promotion and Chronic Disease Control and wanted to offer you the opportunity to get involved and help shape it.

Outlined below are the two current options:

1. We have created a "Content Review Committee" that will be the on-going group to assess any content to be posted to the Web site. There are approximately twelve current members
selected from the Steering Committee, the Portal Working Group and the Methodology Working Group. We would like to invite you to join this committee as our "voice of reality". Teams of two would be created and asked to independently review, in an on-line format, the proposed content.

An orientation would be provided to reviewers on the protocol. As you might imagine, there will be several pieces for each pair to do between now and the launch this Fall (likely the bulk of it coming between June and August). After that, the committee would be called upon as new or revised content is needed. We would like to have the committee get through this initial batch of reviews and then re-examine an on-going role based on the inaugural experience.

2. We are recruiting end-users to participate in usability testing of the Portal (mid-July). The process would take place in one of the following manners:
a) a structured in-person hands-on interview (in Ottawa) of 60-90 minutes to address the usability of the Web site; or
b) an online usability interview to be conducted using remote software
(WebEx technology) to allow us to conduct research with a range of end-users from across Canada. An honorarium will be issued to those participants involved in usability testing.

We are anxious to confirm the people involved in both of these tasks as soon as possible, in case we have to recruit through another means. If you have any questions, please contact
Nina Jetha at

We would appreciate your confirmation as to whether you would like to be involved in one or both of these opportunities by JUNE 20th, 2006.
