Senior Project Officer
Canadian International Immunization Initiative

The Canadian Public Health Association’s (CPHA) Global Health Programs has an
opening for a Senior Project Officer with the Canadian International
Immunization Initiative, Phase 2 (CIII-2).  The CIII-2
(http://www.cpha.ca/programs/ciii/en/index.html), managed by CPHA and funded by
the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA), supports the global
immunization program.  The CIII-2 aims to improve the health of people and
strengthen the Primary Health Care (PHC) systems of selected developing
countries by investing in disease prevention and childhood immunization
programs, and by promoting equitable access to essential PHC services.  This is
an Ottawa-based position.

Under the direction and supervision of the CIII-2 Program Coordinator, the
Senior Project Officer shares the responsibilities of CIII-2 project activities
in supporting the World Health Organization (WHO), the Pan American Health
Organization (PAHO) and the United Nations Children Fund (UNICEF), to
strengthen immunization programs in developing countries.  The Senior Project
Officer’s role includes management of technical experts deployed on overseas
assignments with regard to their recruitment, engagement, briefing/debriefing
and the preparation of mission reports, as well as monitoring some of the field
activities.

Candidates should possess a university degree, preferably in public health or
any related health field, and have a good understanding of public health and
primary health care issues in developing countries.  Candidates will have
experience in the technical and planning, management and assessment aspects of
international public health projects.  Candidates must also have experience in
human resource management, especially in consultant recruitment, selection and
management.  Overseas experience is required.  Candidates should possess
excellent communications skills, be able to work in a team, and good computer
skills.  The ability to communicate fluently in English and French is essential
and fluency in Spanish is an asset.  This position involves overseas travel.

This position ends March 31, 2009.  The salary range for this position is
$45,000 to $55,000 per year dependant on qualifications and experience.  CPHA
