Post Abortion Care Global Resources:

A guide for program design, implementation and evaluation

USAID and the Postabortion Care Working Group invite you to visit this new online resource guide at www.postabortioncare.org <http://www.postabortioncare.org/> .  

 

This guide was developed collaboratively by representatives of USAID, its partners and contractors, and others working in postabortion care worldwide.  Materials were contributed by 18 organizations working in 16 different countries.  Contributing organizations include the American College of Nurse Midwives, the International Federation of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, the US Department of Health and Human Services, WHO and others. 

 

In addition to collecting and sharing examples of policies, communication materials, sample strategies, guidelines and standards, the resource guide includes useful tools for assessing communication materials, allocating resources for PAC services, and writing training curricula, just to cite a few examples. 

 

More than 600 documents were reviewed during the development of this resource package. In addition, each section of the package underwent extensive international review and field testing.

Highlights: 

·         Research - The PAC research compendium (http://www.infoforhealth.org/pac/research/research3.shtml) entitled What Works: A Policy and Program Guide to the Evidence on Postabortion Care functions as the foundation for building solid evidence-based programs. When compiling the research compendium, more than 400 documents from 1994 through 2004 were reviewed and evaluated

·         Strategy - The Strategy Section (http://www.infoforhealth.org/pac/strategies/strategies1.shtml) includes links to the full text of strategy documents from USAID and The Ministry of Health in Malawi.

·         Policies and Standards (http://www.infoforhealth.org/pac/policies/policies1.shtml)- This section features guidelines on how to write policy, a policy template, a policy assessment tool, and links to examples of recommended policies from Bolivia, The Philippines, Malawi and Uganda. 

There are also sections on Training (with extensive links to full text training resources), Service Delivery (with an example of service delivery guidelines), communication (with a full set of generic communication materials and job aids in English, French, Spanish and Russian that can be adapted by countries for their local context), and community mobilization (with resources in English, French and Spanish).  

The Home Page also features a link to a webcast of the web site launch event and new PAC materials from Nepal.  

Visit the PAC Global Resource web site for new resources, links to the latest PAC-related research and updates from the field.  French, Spanish and Russian translations will be available by May, 2008.
