The Ontario Healthy Communities Coalition became involved in CED because of
the tools and resources that the CED movement provides for increasing social
capital and social inclusion, and because it has been successful in creating
positive opportunities for marginalized people to participate in local
economic activities.
The last issue of our newsletter, posted on our website, makes an attempt to
link the ways in which CED addresses social determinants of health such as
income status and social belonging.

The lead organization for the CED conference is the Canadian Community
Economic Development Network, which has been doing extensive work in trying
to impact public policy to strengthen government supports for CED. It would
be interesting to have a dialogue about how the healthy public policy and
CED agendas converge.
