Subject: TFI Bloomberg Initiative is recruiting

Dear colleagues,

I would like to draw your attention to the two job offers listed on WHO
websites for the position of Technical Officer, Tobacco Free
Initiative/Bloomberg Initiative to be based in Beijing (P5) and
Bloomberg Initiative Project Officer to be based in New Delhi (P4).

The deadline for applications is fast approaching (May 13 & May 17), and
we would appreciate your mentioning this information to potential
candidates.

The Bloomberg Global Initiative to Reduce Tobacco Use (BGI) was
established as a consequence of the commitment made by Michael R.
Bloomberg, Mayor of New York City, to donate significant funds towards
ending the global tobacco epidemic. The Bloomberg funds are used to
enable activities that promote freedom from smoking, with a special
emphasis on 15 developing countries, where more than two-thirds of the
world's smokers live. BGI, coordinated by five key partner organizations
(CDC/CDC Foundation, the Johns Hopkins University, the Campaign for
Tobacco-Free Kids, the World Health Organization and the World Lung
Foundation) focuses on the following four components:

*	refine and optimize tobacco control programmes to help adults
stop smoking and to prevent children from starting;
*	support public sector efforts to pass and enforce key laws and
implement effective policies, in particular those that tax cigarettes,
prevent smuggling, change the image of tobacco and protect
workers from exposure to other people's smoke;
*	support advocates' efforts to educate communities about the
harms of tobacco and to enhance control activities so as to help make
the world 	tobacco-free; and
*	develop a rigorous system to monitor the status of global
tobacco use.

A number of Tobacco Free Initiative/Bloomberg posts will appear over the
next few weeks on the WHO website (regional programme managers, regional
surveillance officers and National Professional Officers, HQ
surveillance officers & epidemiologists) so do let your contacts know.

With kind regards and thanks in advance
Gini Arnold
