"Canadian women are being unfairly short-changed by the country's Employment
Insurance system, which was made more restrictive a decade ago and now boasts a
multibillion-dollar surplus, a study concludes...

In fact, the study finds, as many as two in three working women who pay into EI
don't receive a penny in benefits if they lose their jobs."

(The problem seems to be that EI discriminates against people who hold
part-time, temporary, or contract jobs, and against people who take parental
leave... and, due to traditional gender roles, women are more likely to be in
such positions... so they are more likely to get ripped off)

"The principle of organizing our society for the benefit of all the people and
not for a privileged few - that is still here and that is a principle to which
we adhere." - Tommy C. Douglas
