The Health Promotion Journal of Australia (HPJA) was established in 1991 as the official Journal of the Australian Health Promotion Association. It publishes high quality peer-reviewed articles on a wide range of health promotion topics. The Journal's Joint Editors are A/Prof Chris Rissel, Prof Adrian Bauman and A/Prof Jan Ritchie.

The Journal is indexed by Index Medicus/MEDLINE, CINAHL, APAIS, and Sociological Abstracts. It has been assessed as satisfying the refereeing requirements for the Higher Education Research Data Collection (HERDC).
