Women’s Health Institute (WHI) Collaboration Workshop:
On June 20, 2006 the Women’s Health Institute (WHI) Project held a one day stakeholder Collaboration Workshop as part of the process to develop a strategic framework for this new organization. There were over 60 participants, reflecting key stakeholders from throughout Ontario with diverse perspectives and experiences, representing community and women’s groups, academic settings, service providers and policy makers. Discussions and suggestions from this Workshop will contribute to the development of recommendations which Professor Diana Majury, Vision Lead for the WHI Project, will be making to the Minister of Health and Long Term Care. At the Collaboration Workshop participants discussed and provided feedback about the proposed Mission, Goals, Roles, Operating Principles and Priorities for the first three years of the WHI. The proposals presented at the workshop were developed by the WHI Project based on the consultation process which had taken place over the preceding ten
months. Below are highlights of the discussions at the June 20 Collaboration workshop.   OHAfrica Seeks Physicians and Nurse Practitioners for Lesotho:
In response to a global call for action against the HIV/AIDS pandemic in Sub-Saharan Africa, the Ontario Hospital Association and The Change Foundation have established a groundbreaking initiative to lend a hand in Lesotho in the fight against this pandemic.
Established in 2004, OHAfrica places a small team of Canadian health care professionals at the Tšepong “Place of Hope” Clinic in Leribe, Lesotho to support the roll-out of national antiretroviral therapy in this small southern African nation where the infection rate has reached almost one-third of the entire population. OHAfrica is looking for HIV-experienced Canadian physicians, nurses or nurse practitioners, preferably with some experience working in developing countries, who are interested in working alongside Canadian and Basotho health care providers in a districtwide HIV/AIDS treatment program. OHAfrica currently supports a team of 5 Ontario health care professionals based at the Tšepong Clinic in the District of Leribe, and providing capacity building support to 18 primary health care centres throughout the region. OHAfrica welcomes interest from Canadian physicians, nurses, and nurse practitioners who could ideally commit for six month to 1 year terms at the clinic
in Lesotho. From time to time the organization will also need locum physicians. The current team is in place until spring 2007. Positions are salaried, and include housing. Preference is given to Canadian applicants. OHAfrica is currently looking for physicians and nurse practitioners for Lesotho. Positions will start in May 2007 and March 2007 respectively.
