Further to the publication of Annie St-Yves on a study geomatics, I 
suggest you read the final report on active transportation and the
school 
system in Montreal and Trois-Rivières (2009). The report could also 
interest those concerned with the adoption of physical activity.

Like parks promote the practice of sport, active transportation between

home and school is a potential for significant physical activity for
young 
people who are too few to reach the recommended amount of physical 
activity (Kino-Québec 2000).
