StFX announces New Scientific Director for National Collaborating Centre for Determinants of Health
ANTIGONISH, NS --- St. Francis Xavier University is pleased to announce the appointment of Ms. Connie Clement to the position of Scientific Director of the National Collaborating Centre for Determinants of Health (NCCDH).
The NCCDH is one of six National Collaborating Centres for Public Health distributed across Canada. The National Collaborating Centres for Public Health (NCCPH) promote and improve the use of scientific research and other knowledge to strengthen public health practices and policies in Canada, and are funded by the Public Health Agency of Canada.
“I am thrilled to become the scientific director at the National Collaborating Centre Determinants of Health. It's a perfect next role to build on my three decades in public health and health promotion," says Ms. Clement. "Enhancing health equity and understanding social conditions that influence health are foundational to public health. I look forward to escalating the centre's initiatives to strengthen professional capacity and apply best evidence with public health professionals throughout Canada to reduce social inequities that affect health."
“Connie’s experience with translating evidence into enhanced practice, building partnerships, and learning from successful local experiments will be an immense benefit to the NCCDH” says Dr. Mary McGillivray, Academic Vice-President and Provost.
Ms. Clement is the executive director of Social Venture Partners Toronto, a network of engaged philanthropists who develop volunteerism and build non-profit excellence. Bringing together business professionals and non-profit leaders, Social Venture Partners Toronto contributes new skills in Toronto’s fight against poverty. Prior to joining SVP, Connie was executive director of Health Nexus/Nexus Santé, Canada’s leading health promotion consultancy. As Director of Toronto Public Health Planning and Policy, Ms. Clement was instrumental in ground-breaking research, university-community-public health partnerships and programs.
