Addressing the family planning needs of HIV/AIDS clients is a
challenging issue. Programs and research in this area have begun to
explore ways to address these needs, but much remains to be done.

On Thursday, March 1, 2007, the Health Communication Partnership (HCP)
and the INFO (Information and Knowledge for Optimal Health)
Project--both based at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public
Health/Center for Communication Programs--in conjunction with the
partners from the Implementing Best Practices Initiative including the
World Health Organization Department of Reproductive Health and Research
(WHO/RHR), and USAID, will host an event focused on client-provider
interaction (CPI) as it responds to clients' family planning (FP) needs
in HIV/AIDS service settings. This year's event includes representatives
from Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and also
highlights Pathfinder International's experiences in Ethiopia, and
Family Health International's (FHI) work in South Africa. We cordially
invite you and your colleagues to participate in this event.

The purpose of this event is to facilitate ongoing networking and
dialogue among program managers, researchers, and others interested in
improving CPI as it relates to clients' FP needs within HIV/AIDS service
settings. Better counseling on FP for HIV/AIDS clients can enhance
client satisfaction and improve health outcomes. This year's event will
focus on clients' experiences and perspectives.

The March 1st event will begin with a simultaneous, interactive
videoconferencing session connecting participants at sites in Baltimore,
Geneva, Atlanta, Addis Ababa, and Johannesburg. To provide alternative
viewing options for participants in other locations and at other times,
this session will also be both simultaneously Web cast and archived on
the Internet at http://www.jhuccp.org/cpconference
<http://www.jhuccp.org/cpconference> . During the Web conference,
organizers and presenters will be available for questions and comments
on MSN Instant Messenger. To chat during the event, please add

Following the videoconference will be two week-long online forum on CPI
in FP/HIV integration utilizing the Implementing Best Practices (IBP)
Knowledge Gateway (http://my.ibpinitiative.org/public/fphivintegration
<http://my.ibpinitiative.org/public/fphivintegration> ). The forum will
run from March 5 to March 16, 2007, and will be moderated by content
experts from multiple organizations. Everyone is welcome to participate,
and membership in the Gateway is free.

This event will build upon existing synergies among the IBP Initiative,
the USAID MAQ Initiative, and the USAID FP/HIV Integration Working
Group.

During the videoconference, presentations will be given by selected
leaders in this field, including Dr. James D. Shelton, Senior Medical
Scientist, Office of Population and Reproductive Health/USAID.
