Job Opportunity with the Canadian Association of Schools of Nursing:
CASN is the national voice for nursing education and nursing research
and represents nursing programs in Canada.  The organization is
currently looking for an Executive Director.  This position offers
exciting and rewarding challenges.  You will be responsible for
directing and managing the programs and operations of CASN,
anticipating, supporting and responding to the needs of our members (90
schools of nursing), and liaising with governments, health and nursing

West Nile virus - Protect Yourself!  West Nile virus is a virus mainly
transmitted to people through the bite of an infected mosquito.
Mosquitoes transmit the virus after becoming infected by feeding on the
blood of birds which carry the virus. Most people infected with the
virus have no symptoms or they have flu-like symptoms. Sometimes though,
the virus can cause severe illness, resulting in hospitalization and
even death so it is important to know the symptoms of illness related to
infection and how to minimize your risk, especially if virus activity is
reported in an area near you.  For more information, see

Human Development Report 2004 - Cultural Liberty in Today's Diverse
World:  The 15th edition of the annual Human Development Report,
commissioned by the UNDP, continues to frame debates on the most
pressing challenges – new and old – for enabling people to live full and
creative lives. HDR 2004 presents inter alia, cutting edge multicultural
approaches covering power-sharing, religious and secular states,
language policy, legal pluralism and affirmative action. Stéphane Vigié,
Deputy Director for Donor Relations at UNDP’s Bureau for Resources and
Strategic Partnerships, officially launched the 2004 Report. His
presentation was followeded by comments by Mr. Ric Cameron, Senior
Vice-President at the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA)
and by David Onyalo, National  Director of Anti-Racism and Human Rights
with the Canadian Labour Congress.  The launch took place on Thursday,
15 July, 2004 at the IDRC Auditorium (Ottawa).  For more information

Second Conference on Literacy and Health:  Literacy is an important
determinant of health. Literacy also affects other factors that
determine health such as income, access to jobs, education and social
supports.  Almost half of Canadians have low literacy skills. Canadians
who have low literacy skills are more likely to have poor health than
those with higher levels of literacy. They are more likely to be living
with chronic diseases such as diabetes, heart disease and cancer. And,
they are more likely to have an early death. Addressing health literacy
means breaking down the barriers to health that low literacy creates.
The Program Committee for the Second Canadian Conference on Literacy and
Health invites you to discuss what is being done to improve the health
of Canadians with low literacy skills.  The conference is set to take
place from October 17-19, 2004 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, Ottawa,

Montreal-based Canadian HIV/AIDS Legal Network is one of the world’s
foremost charitable organizations dedicated to the promotion of the
human rights of people living with and vulnerable to HIV/AIDS, in Canada
and internationally. They accomplish this through research, policy
analysis, education, advocacy, and community mobilization. They have 11
staff in our main office in Montreal and in a small satellite office in
Toronto.  They are now seeking applications for the position of Senior
Researcher/Policy Analyst.  The Senior Researcher/Policy Analyst will be
