Celebrate the launch of A Culture’s Catalyst: Historical Encounters with Peyote and the Native American Church in Canada by Fannie Kahan, published by The University of Manitoba Press on Saturday, May 13, 3-4 pm, Trinity St. Paul’s Center, 427 Bloor Street West, Toronto. Featured guests Erika Dyck & Meldon Kahan will discuss peyote’s role as a historical flashpoint for the struggle for Indigenous legal, political, and religious rights, and peyote’s current potential for healing. Erika Dyck is Canada Research Chair in History of Medicine and a professor in the Department of History at the University of Saskatchewan. Her books include Psychedelic Psychiatry: LSD on the Canadian Prairies. She edited A Culture’s Catalyst and wrote the introduction to it. Meldon Kahan is the medical director of the Women’s College Hospital’s Substance Use Service and Associate Professor in the Department of Family Medicine at the University of Toronto.
