COMMUNITY SOCIAL PLANNING COUNCIL OF TORONTO

 

RESEARCH MANAGER 

 

The Community Social Planning Council of Toronto is an independent social
planning organization committed to democratic, community-based social policy
and civic participation.

 

The Community Social Planning Council of Toronto is looking for a full time
Research Manager. 

 

The work of the Council includes conducting research, analyzing public
policy as it affects Toronto, and developing social reports in order to
inform policy positions and strategies on major social issues affecting
Toronto and its local communities.  The Council conducts community-based,
action-oriented research on a variety of social issues.  This research
supports and promotes community mobilization on social issues.

 

The policy work of the CSPC-T analyzes, synthesizes, interprets and
disseminates government policy and legislation, particularly at the
municipal level.  

 

The Research Manager will provide creative, innovative, strategic, and
dynamic leadership to the CSPC-T in developing and implementing its research
agenda.  He/She will share responsibility for the overall planning,
development, implementation, and evaluation of the Council's research
agenda, in collaboration with the program staff, Executive Director, Board,
and Research Advisory Committee.

 

Key skills required:

*	Strong writing skills and effective communication skills, including
the ability to produce clear language reports 
*	Participatory research background 
*	Strong planning, implementation and evaluation skills 
*	Strong proposal writing skills 
*	Research and analytical skills 
*	Data analysis skills 
*	Strong supervisory skills 
*	Excellent interpersonal skills, and the ability to work with diverse
communities 
*	Ability to manage multiple initiatives 

 

Qualifications required:

*	Graduate degree or equivalent in social policy or related field 
*	10 years experience as a researcher 
*	Experience planning, implementing, and evaluating programs 
*	Experience with both primary and secondary research 
*	Experience designing and implementing quantitative or qualitative
research projects, including survey and questionnaire design; focus group
design, in a community-based setting 
*	Experience managing staff, preferably within a unionized environment

*	Ability to work independently and as part of a team 
*	Experience working under pressure and to deadline 
*	Experience working with different levels of government 
*	Experience with community-based research 
*	Experience and commitment to equity issues, including the ability to
integrate class, race, and gender analysis 
*	Experience writing funding proposals and related reports 

 

Key Assets include:

 

*	A command of a second or third language would be an asset 
*	Experience working in the non-profit sector 
*	Experience or knowledge of Toronto and its diverse communities 
*	Experience or knowledge of current and potential funding sources 
*	Experience or knowledge of the community sector in Toronto 
*	Experience or knowledge of the academic sector in Toronto 

 

This position reports to the Executive Director and is part of the
Management Team.
