Re: Call for Nominations for Board Membership

Dear Colleague

The Canadian Fitness and Lifestyle Research Institute is a key player in the
national effort to improve the lifestyle and fitness of Canadians.
Established in September 1980, the Institute is a leader in understanding
population levels of physical activity and translating this knowledge to
inform policy. Through its own research and its network of national and
international scholars, the Institute provides research findings and
information for evidence-based decision making to governments at all levels
as well as national and private-sector organizations. By creating knowledge
about physical activity, its determinants and its outcomes, the Institute
provides evidence required so that professionals and policy makers can take
action in improving the lifestyles of Canadians. As a not-for-profit applied
research organization concerned with translating research into policy, the
Institute is supported on an annual basis by funds received from the Public
Health Agency of Canada and Provincial and Territorial Governments.

The Institute is directed by a Board of Directors comprised of eminent
scholars and professionals concerned with research and policy related to
population physical activity. The Board is currently seeking nominations for
a Member-at Large to serve on its Board of Directors. We are asking for your
help in identifying individuals who would be interested in serving a
three-year term on the Board of Directors of the Canadian Fitness and
Lifestyle Research Institute. Although the work is voluntary, expenses to
attend meetings will be reimbursed. Directors are expected to attend one
two-day meeting and up to twelve conference calls of the Board of Directors
annually. In addition, they may be asked to serve on an ad-hoc committee of
the Board, as the need arises. All Board Members serve as Members-at-Large
and as such do not represent any link or affiliation to other organizations.

If you would like to nominate anyone for consideration, please confirm their
interest and availability with them prior to submission of their names.
Please ask nominees to submit a one to two page abbreviated curriculum vitae
or outline pf their experiences and involvement related to the four
criteria: 1) demonstrated expertise in physical activity or health 2)
interest in furthering physical activity research and the development of
knowledge of interventions 3) direct experience or appreciation for both
research and policy and 4) demonstrated network of contacts. A practical
application of the scientific literature to practice or demonstrated
involvement in community interventions would satisfy the criteria of
research and policy links. Candidates will not have a conflict of interest
with the CFLRI nor be a major funder of its initiatives.

We would like to receive nominations and the abbreviated curriculum vitae by
January 31, 2008. These should be sent to [log in to unmask]

Thank you in advance for your assistance in helping us to recruit high
caliber individuals to guide the ongoing development of the Canadian Fitness
and Lifestyle Research Institute.

On behalf of the Board of Directors,

Cora Lynn Craig

President & Chief Scientist
