Position:                               Provincial Director


 

Terms of Employment:     12 month contract beginning February 4, 2008 
(possibility of renewal)

21 hours/3 days per week - in office

Hourly wage of $25 - $30

Background of OWHN


Since 1997, the Ontario Women's Health Network/Le Reseau ontarien pour la santè des femmes has worked with women, service and care providers, local groups, health practitioners, and other organizations in Ontario to share information and resources on issues related to women's health. OWHN embraces a holistic view of health that includes not only women's physical resources, but also the economic, social and environmental conditions of their lives. We have structured our organization around a strong set of values and principles <http://www.owhn.on.ca/about_us.htm#value> . 

Provincial Director reports to a voluntary Board of Directors who uses a governance model.  The Provincial Director would be responsible for a staff team of up to 10 women and a moderate, project based budget. 


 


Objectives:   

 

*         To inform the community and raise the profile about marginalized women's health issues, including issues of inclusion, in accessible and plain language. 

*         To develop and solidify a vibrant network who share relevant information regarding women's health

*         To leverage our strong collaborations and networks that already exist

*         To develop our research capacity and expand and deepen our audience base 

*         To increase our projects with a strong focus on marginalized women's health issues.   

 

To work with Board of Directors to:

 

*         The Provincial Director administers available human and financial resources and is directly accountable to the Board of the OWHN
 

*        Secure ongoing funds for the priority areas of OWHN within a sustainability strategy for long-term organizational stability. 

 

*        Manage the OWHN human resources, work plans, proposal development, partnerships, budgets, and evaluation




*        Oversee all components of the OWHN projects - project development and management, budget management, resource development, communications and advocacy

 

*        Effectively represent the OWHN in relations with government; non-governmental agencies, women's community and professional organizations; funding agencies; and the media;




*        Hire, train, support, guide and review performance of staff,  contract staff volunteers, and students in a collaborative work environment;




*        Support the Board and other advisory committees




Qualifications:         

 

*    Extensive background and knowledge of women's health issues from a feminist perspective, the determinants of health, health policy and principles of health promotion, inclusion and community development, particularly in Ontario 

*    University degree in social sciences, education, women's studies, community health, or related degree or equivalent experience

*    Demonstrated ability in working with diverse communities (disability, culture, ethnicity, immigration status, geography, age, sexual orientation) within an anti-oppression framework

*    Demonstrated ability coordinating the planning, development, implementation and evaluation of multiple programs, including funding proposals, policies, procedures and work plans

*    Demonstrated experience and success in fundraising and resource development

*    Demonstrated ability to manage budgets

*    Demonstrated management style which supports, guides and mentors staff in an atmosphere of mutual respect and collaboration

*    Experience working with and developing networks, coalitions and collaborations

*    Independent, self starter who can work in a flexible, fast pace, highly productive workplace and also be comfortable in an environment of continuous learning and change

*    Demonstrated ability to meet timelines and organizational objectives.

*    Excellent oral and written communications skills

*    Computer proficiency a must

 

Assets: 

*   Second language

*   Understanding of feminist and community based research processes.
