The purpose of this email is two-fold. Firstly, CPRA would like to
provide you with an update on our latest project, Canada Gets Active;
secondly, CPRA would like to request your assistance in sending out an
awareness piece concerning this project.
Recently, CPRA has received funding from the Public Health Agency of
Canada (PHAC) to work on a new project titled Canada Gets Active.
Modeled after Kingston Gets Active (KGA), and in conjunction with the
Everybody gets to play? initiative, the main objective of this project
will be to increase Physical Activity involvement of grade 5 students
across Canada by increasing their access to and participation in
community recreation facilities. This will primarily occur by providing
grade 5 children with a free Community Physical Activity Pass thereby
eliminating one of the major barriers to recreation and physical
activity participation. The rationale for targeting Grade 5 students is
related to the decline in physical activity that occurs as children near
adolescence. The Community Physical Activity Pass provides an
opportunity for promoting positive physical activity behaviour in this
age group.
Up to a maximum of five communities will be identified from various
regions across Canada to participate as pilot communities in the Canada
Gets Active project. An extensive evaluation of the five pilot
communities will be completed by Queen?s University researchers and will
serve to generate further evidence for future community based
interventions aimed at increasing facility use and physical activity
involvement in other student groups.
*Potential pilot communities will be asked to answer a Call for
Applications, however in order for these communities to access this
Call, CPRA must first create an awareness of the Canada Gets Active
project. We are asking for your help in distributing the attached brief
Marketing Message to your members so that communities may be informed of
this opportunity. Please let me know if you are able to distribute this
message, as well as an additional message which will be sent out early
June, that will notify communities of the details in applying for this
project.*
If you have any questions or concerns please let me know. Your
assistance is greatly appreciated.
Have an excellent day,
Carolyn
