Microbicides research symposium available online: On October 30, 2003,
ICAD along with 7 other partners hosted a one-day symposium to update
participants on progress concerning microbicides research and
development in Canada. The symposium included researchers, private
sector firms, government and community organizations and provided
concrete recommendations on what each sector should do to further work
in this area in Canada. The report on the symposium is available at:

5th EUROLAC Forum - Improving Health Systems Performance and Health
Outcomes: The Millennium Development Goals have been adopted by the
international community as part of a concerted effort to reduce poverty,
hunger, health, and disease by accomplishing a series of specific
targets over the 1990-2015 time period. Although the MDGs cover
education, the environment, and broad poverty reduction efforts, this
Forum will address the MDGs related to health issues. These MDGs
represent a series of challenges that must be addressed as infant and
maternal mortality is to be reduced, and progress is to be made in
combating HIV/AIDS, malaria, and other diseases. Forum participants will
be high-level policy makers and technical officials from countries of
Latin America, the Caribbean, Europe, and North America, as well as from
partner and other international organizations, and representatives from
European governments. The forum will take place in Recife, Brazil, on
April 13-16, 2004. For more information, see
