is seeking a
Program Coordinator
Strengthening of Public Health Associations Program
for its International Programs

The Program Coordinator, based in Ottawa, is responsible for the
development and management of project activities within CPHA’s
Strengthening of Public Health Associations (SOPHA) Program.  This Program
provides financial and technical assistance to overseas national public
health associations to strengthen their organizational capacities and to
implement public health activities.  This short-term contract ends August
31, 2001, with the potential for longer-term employment depending on
funding from the Canadian International Development Agency for a 5-year
new project phase.

The Program Coordinator will be responsible for projects in Africa and
Latin America/ Caribbean, and will also, as required, carry out activities
related to the Association’s International Programs.  The Program
Coordinator will also be expected to represent CPHA at national and
international venues.

Candidates applying for this position should at a minimum:
(a) possess a university degree in health sciences or a related social
sciences field;
(b) be experienced in designing and implementing public health projects;

(c) be experienced in organizational capacity development in the
not-for-profit sector;
(d) have overseas experience as a project or program manager.
(e) be  a Canadian citizen or landed immigrant

Candidates should possess excellent communications skills, be able to work
in a team, and have good computer skills.  Fluency in English and French
is mandatory, and fluency in Spanish is an asset.

This position requires a high level of personal and professional
commitment, and involves travel overseas.  The salary for this position is
currently under negotiation with the Canadian International Development
Agency (CIDA).  CPHA offers a comprehensive benefits package and a
