Interesting discussions as always, though I am usually in listener mode.
I was trained in social work, but all of my professional career, even prior
to the PhD also SW, has been in research and statistics on behalf of
people, rather than in direct interaction with people. I have always found
it odd that working with numbers, which are by definition very consistent
and predictable paid me much more than working with people, who are much
more varied than numbers are. I think it is the Barbie "Math is hard"
phenomenon for those of you who remember. By the way, my attraction to the
numbers side was not for the money but for the opportunity to have a
broader influence in the world than a caseload of 30-60 would have
afforded.
