The ACQUIRE Project, managed by EngenderHealth (EH), Family Health
International (FHI), and the Leadership, Management, and Sustainability
Program of Management Sciences for Health (MSH), are pleased to invite
you to participate in an online forum on the topic of "Effective
Programming for Long-Acting and Permanent Methods: A Forum for Family
Planning Program Managers and Policymakers" which will take place April
21-25, 2008. This English-language electronic forum will be held on the
Global Exchange Network (GEN) for Reproductive Health website
(http://globalexchange.msh.org ).

GEN is a virtual network of reproductive health professionals around the
world. The Network promotes the exchange of information and best
practices on priority management and leadership issues in reproductive
health and family planning.

This forum, "Effective Programming for Long-Acting and Permanent
Methods: A Forum for Family Planning Program Managers and Policymakers,"
will provide a platform to facilitate a global discussion on the
challenges, opportunities, and successes that have been experienced in
LAPM programming, and highlight the important role LAPMs have in
addressing the worldwide unmet need for family planning. The forum will
build off recent method-specific electronic forums hosted on the
Implementing Best Practices Knowledge Gateway by focusing on the
leadership and management practices that are critical to increase access
to and improve quality provision of LAPMs.

Forum facilitators will be Roy Jacobstein, Clinical Director, the
ACQUIRE Project; Erin McGinn, Associate Director, Research Utilization,
at FHI; and Sylvia Vriesendorp, Institutional Development Specialist in
MSH's Leadership, Management, and Sustainability Program. Collectively,
these facilitators have extensive backgrounds in programmatic and
service delivery challenges, evidence-based approaches, and in
leadership and management of health programs and services.

The objectives of this forum are to:

* Discuss the rationale and barriers to increasing investment in
LAPMS and creating a supportive policy environment.
* Discuss program design issues and implications for LAPM services
(e.g., need for clinical setting, for counseling, trained providers,
demand creation, creating an enabling policy environment)
* Exchange tools, lessons learned and best practices in LAPM
service programming and delivery (programming approaches, service
delivery models, principles, tools, etc.)

Forum participants will be provided with an overview and case studies on
leadership and management issues that arise when programming for,
creating demand for, or providing LAPM services. During the week, they
will have the opportunity to interact directly with facilitators and
each other to share their experiences. They will also have access to the
GEN online library, which includes key resources on this topic.
