i actually did hear of a program during a presentation at the american public health association meeting in the fall. i think it was federal or something. i'll have to see if i can find the person who gave the talk and give you their info. i know they were in oregon somewhere. i know also that if you look on Google, there are lots of organizations that have websites that do this kind of thing but the one i'm thinking about they fund you instead of you having to pay your own way and expenses. i'll check it out and get back to you.

Hi Ruth,

I work with the Minnesota Department of Health with a statewide
outcomes and measures unit.

Currently, I am doing some research on places to volunteer in Africa
for HIV/AIDS programs. Do you know of any organizations that allow
people to volunteer for a month or two in Africa? I was looking at
Kenya, but would be willing to explore other parts of Africa.

Thank you in advance,

Sara

i'm on my way to uganda (my partner and child's father is from there so
it's a working vacation) this summer to do some research on social work
there with the intent to return to do work in HIV/AIDS like i'm doing in
Jamaica.

i'm very interested in linking with any contacts you may have.

Social Support Alive in Uganda

"Recently, I've had opportunities to visit organizations that are
committed to eradicating poverty in Uganda through cultural, social
and
economic activities. One such group is Meeting Point International
(MPI), a Ugandan non-governmental organization that works in four of
the
poorest-of-the-poor areas in Kampala. I visited one of these
communities
with Rose Busingye, the Director of MPI, who showed me how social
support is enriching the lives of these villagers, especially women."
