DESCRIPTION

The Canadian Tobacco Control Research Initiative (CTCRI) is a collaboration
among a group of Canadian agencies and governments.  Its mission is to
stimulate, coordinate and sustain research that has a direct impact on tobacco
control.  Toward that end, the CTCRI funds innovative, relevant research and
works to facilitate knowledge exchange and linkage between researchers, those
responsible for program/policy development, and those who implement
program/policy changes.  (For more information, see the CTCRI website at

As part of the CTCRI staff team, the Manager provides leadership to activities
that further the CTCRI mission.
Duties will include:

§        Assist in the development of overall work plans of the CTCRI,
including identifying goals and objectives, estimating resources and timelines

§         Plan and carry out specific projects that support the mission

§         Establish and nurture partnerships; develop and maintain
relationships with and among researchers, practitioners and research funders

§         Provide leadership to the development of improved knowledge exchange
systems in tobacco control

§         Contribute to the CTCRI overall communications strategy, including
promotion of research opportunities and results through website, list serves,
workshops, and partnerships and reports to partners and the Board

§         Manage the evaluation plan for the initiative

        §         Support working groups and the Board of Directors

 Qualifications are:
§         Post-graduate degree in a health-related discipline or equivalent
experience

§         Knowledge of public health and health research issues

§         Strong project management skills, including scheduling tasks and
budgeting

§         Strong oral and written communication skills

§         Experience in creating and managing networks, partnerships, linkages

§         Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team

§         Attention to detail and production of high quality, accurate work

§         Proficiency with MS Windows programs, including word processing,
spreadsheet and database software programs (Word, Excel, Access)

        §         Non-smoker

 Additional values include:
§         Familiarity with tobacco control research and policy; knowledge of
community

§         Understanding of knowledge exchange/transfer/translation issues

        §         Bilingual in French and English
