Position: Canadian Project Coordinator for “Documenting Capacity
Strengthening Approaches and Best Practices in Teasdale-Corti Team Grants”
(the Case Study Project)

Position type: Half-time (0.5 FTE), renewable annually for 2 years. Note:
Please do not hesitate to apply if you are looking for a full-time position.
There are a number of possibilities for complementary half-time positions
with our research teams.

Location: University of Ottawa, Canada

Overview:
The Canadian Project Coordinator will work with the three co-PIs (at the
University of Ottawa; Great Lakes University of Kisumu, Kenya; and the
University of the West Indies, Mona, Jamaica) and project coordinators in
Kenya and Jamaica. Responsibilities include coordinating qualitative data
collection, analysis, and writing to develop a set of case studies on the
capacity-building experiences of global health research teams involved in
the Teasdale-Corti Team Grants projects. 

Project background:
Fourteen teams of Canadian and lower- and middle-income researchers received
Team Grants funding from the Teasdale-Corti Global Health Research
Partnership Program, from the International Development Research Centre
(IDRC) through the Global Health Research Initiative (GHRI). The teams are
undertaking innovative multi-year programs combining applied research,
knowledge translation and capacity-building to solve pressing health
problems in lower- and middle-income countries. 
	The two-year Case Study project will contribute to the GHRI’s
systematic monitoring, evaluation and sharing of what the Teasdale-Corti
program is learning about capacity-building, institutional strengthening and
global research partnerships for development.

Responsibilities:
•	Develop the ethics submission to obtain ethics approval for the
project;
•	Oversee the data collection process, develop interview schedules and
undertake interviews; help to train Kenyan and Jamaican project coordinators
in case study and qualitative methods;
•	Work with country project coordinators to conduct a literature
review, prepare an annotated bibliography and short paper of English,
French, and Spanish resources on theoretical frameworks for
capacity-building;
•	Identify a potential evaluation framework and potential indicators
in consultation with Team Grants teams that examines capacity-building
initiatives and their impact.
•	Work closely with IDRC and Team Grants team leaders to ensure
consultation and input;
•	Manage the project budget, financial transfers to Kenya and Jamaica,
and financial and narrative reporting to IDRC;
•	Work with and oversee activities of the Canadian administrative
coordinator; 
•	Contribute to writing the case study book and work closely with the
editor;
•	Assist with writing briefing materials about the project for GHRI
and global health coalitions.
Qualifications:
•	Minimum of masters degree in international development, nursing,
public or community health, epidemiology, social sciences, or other related
disciplines;
•	Fluently bilingual (French and English) with Spanish fluency an
asset;
•	Proven qualitative research experience (developing interview
schedules, conducting interviews, qualitative analysis);
•	Strong writing, editing and manuscript preparation skills with
publication record an asset; 
•	Excellent library and bibliographic skills; experience conducting
and writing up findings from literature reviews;
•	Experience working as part of a multi-disciplinary, international
team with excellent cross-cultural communication skills;
•	Excellent oral and written communication skills, including ability
to coordinate project activities internationally using phone, email, VoiP,
and web conferencing;
•	Proven project management skills including ability to prioritize;
•	Demonstrated interest in global health research with lower- and
middle-income countries.
