Call for Nominations: The Canadian Best Practices Portal for Health Promotion and Chronic Disease Prevention

The Public Health Agency of Canada is currently undergoing updates to the Canadian Best Practices Portal for Health Promotion and Chronic Disease Prevention <http://cbpp-pcpe.phac-aspc.gc.ca/_> [http://cbpp-pcpe.phac-aspc.gc.ca] and your help is needed! The Canadian Best Practices Portal needs nominations of effective interventions, practices and programs, resources and/or partners/links to be added onto the Portal.

The Portal is a valuable online tool which organizes systematic reviews and effective community and population level interventions, practices and programs within a standardized population health approach. Its purpose is to deliver consistent and effective information on health promotion and chronic disease prevention to decision makers who influence chronic disease prevention and health promotion practice and policy through its: development, implementation and evaluation. The Portal supports decision-making capacity by promoting the adoption or adaption of proven and effective community interventions.

The first phase of the Portal addressed various topics and diseases (cardiovascular disease, cancer, diabetes, and chronic respiratory diseases) and key risk factors (e.g., physical inactivity, unhealthy eating, hypertension. Submissions are welcome in these topic areas as well as content for Phase two (2008-2009) of the Portal.

	The focus for Phase two:
The initial content searching is to be for collections of interventions in health promotion and chronic disease prevention topics of:
▪	mental health, covering both mental illness prevention and mental health promotion (in relation to settings), obesity (in relation to protective and risk factors of activity, nutrition, tobacco, alcohol); and newcomers/immigrant health (as related to general chronic disease); with all topics considering at least one or more priority determinants of health, and
▪	chronic diseases, with a primary or secondary prevention focus (particular interests in cancer, cardiovascular disease and diabetes). Chronic disease and health promotion are considered underlying main themes and therefore apply to all aspects of content searching and updating.

Subsequent searching will be for individual interventions in the above topics, as well as chronic disease prevention and health promotion, over the past 20 years. All interventions to be selected are to show positive evaluation results of effective practices through a well implemented study/design.

To submit a nomination, please visit the Nominations page <http://cbpp-pcpe.phac-aspc.gc.ca/nominate/index_e.cfm_> [http://cbpp-pcpe.phac-aspc.gc.ca/nominate/index_e.cfm <http://cbpp-pcpe.phac-aspc.gc.ca/nominate/index_e.cfm > ] or email Nina Jetha at [log in to unmask] Contact us to obtain updated PDFs to our selection process (Methodology) <http://cbpp-pcpe.phac-aspc.gc.ca/about/process_e.cfm_> , where you will find information regarding the criteria used to screen nominations. All content submitted will be vetted by a group of experts against the selection criteria. Users, who nominate effective interventions, practice and program information will receive an automated response confirming receipt of their nomination.
