Expanding Our Horizons: Moving Mental Health and Wellness into the
Mainstream

The Clifford Beers Foundation working in conjunction with The Mental
Health Commission of Canada is pleased to announce this important
international conference on the promotion of mental health and wellness,
which will take place at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre, March 4th
- 6th 2009

The objectives of the conference are:

   1. To raise the profile of mental health and wellness promotion on
the national agenda by learning from other jurisdictions and from each
other.
   2. To influence the development and implementation of a Canadian
strategy for mental health and wellness promotion, as well as
provincial/territorial policies.
   3. To promote action and "ownership" of mental health and wellness
promotion by everyone (i.e. governments, communities, all sectors).
   4. To develop and enhance intersectoral partnerships.
   5. To provide a forum for knowledge exchange, opportunities to learn
about the latest research, innovations and evidence-based practices.

A major driving force for the conference is the development of a series
of recommendations on how mental health and wellness promotion can best
be moved into the mainstream. Secondly and just as importantly, the
conference will produce a series of recommendations to highlight the
value of mental health and wellness promotion in any national mental
health strategy. These recommendations will be forwarded to the Mental
Health Commission.
