Susan,
We have the book by Scott. Do you want a photocopy of the pages cited,
129-131? I could send them off. To what address? We have most of the
standard books on Twain.
As an aside, as a junior and chemistry major at Illinois, I signed up for
"Mark Twain and the Rise of Realism" taught by Arthur Scott. There were two
seniors and the rest graduate students. I brought home a "C" for the class,
my only English class on all my transcripts. I did learn a lot, but did not
realize I was out of my league in taking the class as I did. There were four
classes listed as prerequisites I had not taken. No one checked up, as I
figured would be the case.
