Subject: Health-evidence.ca: The New & Improved Online Resource for Public Health Decision Makers
www.health-evidence.ca is a free, searchable, online registry of published research evidence, in the form of systematic reviews, evaluating public health, health promotion, and population health interventions. This registry houses over 1,100 reviews and is updated quarterly. All reviews on health-evidence.ca have been assessed for methodological quality to help you quickly find the best research evidence available to support the decisions you make. Health-evidence.ca has been a go-to resource for Canadian public health decision makers since its launch in 2005. More than 150 visits are made to the site daily.
Many of the new and improved features on health-evidence.ca include:
§ Refined searches - after submitting an initial search, you can tweak your search strategy using AND, OR or NOT to expand or narrow your search. An automatic tally of the number of results you get with each revision enables you to see what combinations of terms produce the desired results
§ More search results - the free text terms you use in your search will now be matched to equivalent pre-existing terms, returning more comprehensive results (e.g., the term 'smoking' will also get results for 'tobacco use' and 'tobacco cessation')
§ More review information available at first glance - Results pages now include information on quality assessment rating, author, and publication year for each review
§ Sortable results - you can sort results by quality assessment rating, promoting quicker access to the best available evidence
§ Saved searches - you are able to save up to 50 searches to your registered user account enabling you to go back and re-run any of your searches at any time
§ Increased transparency - you can view the quality assessment completed for each review
§ Pop-up glossary - definitions for common terminology will pop-up in as you scroll over terms
In addition to these new features, the ongoing benefits of health-evidence.ca include:
§ Made for you - this registry was developed for Canadian public health decision makers with intense decision maker input and feedback
§ Saves time - you don't need to search databases, assess methodological quality or synthesize evidence - we have already done that for you. To date over 500,000 titles have been screened, 1,100 reviews have been quality assessed and over 100 summary statements summarizing review evidence have been written
§ Quality evidence fast - searching the registry is fast and easy
§ For all decision making levels - over 1,100 reviews in 21 topic areas to meet the needs of all public health decision makers
§ Current evidence -new reviews are posted to the registry quarterly
