A growing body of evidence and new policy initiatives on integrating family planning and HIV/AIDS services offer the public health community important, scalable opportunities for strengthening such linkages. Integrating family planning and HIV improves reproductive health and helps prevent HIV. Recent milestones include President Obama's Global Health Initiative-which places prevention of unintended pregnancies next to HIV/AIDS as a global health priority, and makes integration and women-centered approaches cross-cutting principles-and the expansion of integrated family planning and HIV services as an explicit priority in PEPFAR's new five-year strategy.
To support stronger linkages between family planning and HIV/AIDS, FHI would like to share the following resources with you.
1. A new series of FP/HIV briefs, "The Case for Integrating Family Planning and HIV/AIDS Services: Evidence, Policy Support, and Programmatic Experience"<http://www.fhi.org/en/RH/Pubs/servdelivery/FP_HIV_brief_package.htm>
This set of eight briefs summarizes the current state of integration of the family planning (FP) and HIV/AIDS fields. The briefs highlight recent developments, including changes in the policy environment, new programmatic examples, and the latest operations research results. This user-friendly package of information will help guide policymakers, program managers, donors, and implementers in strengthening FP/HIV integration policies and programs. (FHI 2010)

This mini-poster was produced upon completion of the USAID-funded Contraceptive and Reproductive Health Technologies Research and Utilization program. The 10 steps reflect findings of recent assessments of integration and evaluations of integrated services carried out in a number of African countries during the past five years. The poster was designed to promote reflection among managers and providers working in integrated services, to ensure that key inputs are addressed. It is on A4-size paper and is laminated, making it sturdy and suitable for posting in a clinic or program office. (FHI 2010)

This new report, which includes an interview with FHI staff working on integration issues, documents FP/HIV integration approaches, which have been advocated for by the Tides Foundation since 2007. Tides Africa, with support from the Hewlett Foundation, disbursed grants totaling $1.3 million in 2008-2009 to pioneer integration efforts in six countries in sub-Saharan Africa. "Making the Case for Integration" includes profiles of leaders in the integration field, a summary of current research, and analysis of difficult challenges and real solutions by experts from the public and philanthropic sectors.
