    From the article, retired chairman of UCLA's English Department, Tom
Wortham states,  "But Huck never realizes slavery is wrong."

    That statement is my fault.  I lent Wortham my copy of Moby Books'
illustrated, abridged version of Huck Finn for Young Readers, with only
15 chapters.  So he obviously never got to chapter 31.  My bad.  I never
thought that he'd go about blathering about the book without realizing I
didn't give him the big-boy version.  I just thought bad things like
"all right, then, I'll go to hell" might just be too scary for him
before bedtime.  So mea maxima culpa.

    Saying that Huck doesn't realize slavery is wrong is like saying the
Bible doesn't talk about Jesus.  You could get that idea if you only
read half of it, and didn't understand it too well, but the part you
skim sometimes turns out to be sorta important.
