I was greatly displeased to read the Mark Twain list serve's list of
recommended biographies to find only the ones listed below.20

Kaplan, Justin. _Mr. Clemens and MT_. 1966.
_MT's Autobiography_. Ed. Albert Bigelow Paine. New York: Harper
          and Brothers, 1924.
Paine, Albert Bigelow. _MT: A Biography_. Issued in 2-, 3-, and
4-volume sets. New York: Harper and Brothers, 1912.

Is the forum suggesting that no biographies of merit have been written
since 1966!! Naturally, in addition to Ham Hill and Jeff Steinbrink, I do
have a stake in this. Mark Twain in the Company of Women has been out for
three years now, was recognized with a Choice award as an outstanding
scholarly biography and this year based on sales was released as a
paperback. What more does one need to do???

Please correct this obviously incomplete listing as soon as possible. I
would also suggest you read Michael Kiskis' final statement and outgoing
President of the Mark Twain Circle of American in the latest edition of
the Mark Twain Circular.
