This is request for some help. I write from New Orleans. A major
corporation here, Freeport-McMoran, has recently been the object of
criticism for alleged environment and human rights abuses at its
copper-gold miine in Irian Jaya, a province of Indonesia.

FMM has run full page adds in the NYT, the Times-Picayune (New Orleans)
and elsewhere using a purported quote from Mark Twain. Here is the
quote: "A lie can travel half way around the world while the truth is
putting on its shoes."

Can anyone tell me if this is a quote by MT and, if so, where it appears?
Thanks.
