Dear Soc Hist Econimics (and Felix Vardy)
A neo-modernisationist take on the late nineteenth and early
twentieth century economic history of commodity export economies is
available in the volume by Hunt and Cortes Conde. A
neo-structuralism take is provided by Thorp - Econ Hist of LA in the
Twentieth Century - and later volumes edited with Enrique Cardenas
and Jose Antonio Ocampo. For economic thought/doctrine, see Thorp &
FitzGerald, and contributions (history and history of economic ideas)
by Love. There also interesting surveys of cepalismo and dependency
in Kay - LA theories of development and underdevelopment - , possibly
a shade dated but worth reading. Dos Santos is generally
acknowledged as the 'father of dependency' theory. There are
important contributions to Dependency (and neo dependency theory) by
Cardoso & Faletto (and Cardoso - though some of his contributions are
rather dense). Interesting as an 'historical record' is Prebisch's
take on dependency theory (or a response to it 'twenty years on') in
Revisita de CEPAL 1988 vol XXXIV.
